Ceuticals include a variety of products that are designed to work in or on the body. Ceuticals support the idea of ??self-care” that is managing personal health to improve or restore the body or treating or preventing disease. Ceuticals is not always prescribed products but are often available over-the-counter as dietary supplements or topical applications
defining Ceuticals
The use of the word “Ceuticals” indicates a reference to a product that has medical or medicinal properties. These products can be produced substances or organic substances and may or may not be regulated by law. Ceuticals is referenced in the skin care industry health and fitness industry food industry and drug and medical industries.
Pharmaceuticals
Pharmaceuticals are medications or drugs. The industry creates these drugs is called the pharmaceutical industry. The term pharmaceutical according to Merriam-Webster Dictionary was originally in 1881. Drugs may contain natural substances manmade chemicals or a combination of both. Pharmaceuticals include radiopharmaceuticals (radioactive drugs that are commonly used in cancer treatment) is Biopharmaceuticals (biologically derived drugs) and psycho pharmaceuticals (medicines used to treat psychosis).
nutraceutical
Nutraceuticals also spelled nutriceuticals described as functional foods or supplements. Nutraceuticals containing food items which have been shown to have a physiological or medical effect on the body. Instead of eating food containing medicinal properties is the element in food removed re-engineered and put into a capsule or powdered form for consumption. Examples resveratrol in red grapes which is an antioxidant and sulforaphane found in broccoli and is believed to be helpful in fighting cancer.
cosmeceutical
The term cosmeceutical is a marketing term that refers to a topical product (creams lotions gels ointments shampoos) who claim to have both cosmetic and medicinal properties. The active ingredients found in cosmeceuticals are often vitamin anti-oxidants essential oils or phytochemicals and enzymes. Cosmeceuticals are loosely regulated under the Federal Food Drug and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA). FFDCA does not require prior approval testing or evidence of a product safety and only gets involved if the product is proven to be harmful after it is used by the public.
FDA And Ceuticals
Pharmaceutical industry regulation started in 1906 through the passing of the Pure Food and Drug Act. Detailed rules were instated with the passing of the FDA Modernization Ministry Act of 1997. Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA) was created as a response to vitamin nutraceutical industry. DSHEA requires industry to create a safe product before it reaches the public but does not regulate the production process. The legislation further requires manufacturers to make claims based solely on statements by the state or state recognized scientific bodies. Marking of these products must only make claims define the structure and function (calcium helps build bones) and can not make claims about curing a disease.”
