a yeast infection also known as Candidiasis is an infection caused by microscopic fungi or yeast known as candida. These fungi live on the entire surface of the human body but in some cases become so numerous that they can cause an infection. Infection usually occurs in moist warm areas of the body including the mouth or genitals. most common types of yeast infections are found in the vagina mouth and throat.
in adults can yeast infections also occur around dentures under the breasts or in other skin folds and in nailbeds. These infections are usually not serious and can be cleaned up easily with treatment. treatment for a yeast infection will vary with the type and severity of the infection.
Vaginal yeast infections can be treated with over the counter medications available in drug stores and pharmacies. If the infection lasts for more than a week or does not improve it may be necessary to consult a doctor for prescription medication. thrush requires a trip to the doctor and a prescription anti -sopp mouthwash. adults with thrush also have the opportunity to take anti -fungal lozenges or pills to get rid of the infection. for yeast infection that affects the skin or nailbed are creams and lotions prescribed by a doctor used.
if proper treatment is given most yeast infections be deleted without further complications. most vaginal oral and skin infections are resolved within two weeks. if the patient has a weakened immune system due to illness fungal infection back again or are difficult to treat.
