It is often difficult to get children to eat their vegetables but it is important to teach children at a young age to eat healthy. There are recipes that can be made with children in mind and they will not realize what they are eating is good for them. Chicken Fingers
Kids love finger foods and most children love chicken. Instead of dipping the chicken in batter and deep frying try using a healthy batter and fry the chicken for half the fat. Preheat oven to 475 degrees. Mix together 1/2 cup crushed almonds 1/4 cup whole wheat flour 1 1/2 teaspoon of paprika 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon salt and1 / 8 teaspoon pepper. Add the olive oil. Use 4 large egg whites and dip the chicken tenders into egg whites and roll into the dry mix. Spray a baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Each tender has 174 calories and only 4 grams of fat.
Ham and cheese pockets
Pizza pockets and pizza rolls that you buy at the grocery store are loaded with fat and preservatives. You can make your own homemade pockets of a few ingredients. Use two finished cake crusts for dough. Spread a crust on a flat surface brush with a little mayo or mustard and layer with ham slices and grated cheese. Place the second crust on top and press the edges together sealing crust. Use a pizza cutter to cut the cake into triangles. Beat one egg and with a brush place a thin layer on top of the crust. Bake in a 350 degree (F) oven for about 5 minutes or until the crust is slightly brown.
Inside Out Cheese Burgers
cheeseburgers can be made healthy with some modifications. Mix together 1/4 cup shredded Cheddar cheese 1/4 cup grated yellow cheese in a small bowl and set aside. In another bowl mix one kg lean ground beef 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1 1/2 teaspoons paprika and 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper. Mix well and form into 8 very thin patties. Place a small mix of cheese on each patty and top with one of the other patties sealing edges. Grill the burgers over medium heat until done.
